Pre-Compliance and Environmental Testing

Pre-compliance testing that clears your product before the expensive certification lab

In-house EMC, ESD, and environmental testing that finds the problems early, while they still cost hours to fix rather than a failed certification run.

Why it matters

A failed certification run is costly and slow. Pre-compliance catches the problems while they are still cheap to fix.

Regulatory compliance is mandatory for selling electronic products in most markets, and EMC, safety, and environmental requirements must be met before a product can be legally sold. Test lab time is costly, and redesigning a finished product causes significant delays. Pre-compliance testing catches problems early, when they are easiest to fix. I run near-field probes, spectrum analyzers, and ESD simulators in-house to find issues before formal certification, and because I design hardware too, I can trace a failure to its root cause and fix it. A large part of this is EMC and EMI pre-compliance: finding and fixing the emissions and immunity problems on the bench before a formal test lab turns them into an expensive failed booking.

What you get

Results you can act on before you book the lab

EMC pre-scan

Radiated and conducted emissions measurements that identify the frequencies of concern before formal testing.

ESD testing

Contact and air discharge testing per IEC 61000-4-2, with documentation of pass and fail levels.

Immunity screening

Basic immunity testing for RF susceptibility and electrical fast transients.

Environmental stress

Temperature cycling and humidity testing to verify the product is robust to real-world conditions.

Issue analysis

When problems are found, root cause analysis and recommended fixes, not just a pass or fail number.

Test report

Documented results suitable for your design records and certification preparation.

Mitigation guidance

Specific recommendations for addressing any failures before formal testing begins.

Testing capabilities

From the EMC bench to the climate chamber

EMC testing

  • Radiated emissions (30 MHz to 6 GHz)
  • Conducted emissions (150 kHz to 30 MHz)
  • Near-field probing for noise source identification
  • RF immunity screening

ESD testing

  • Contact discharge up to 8 kV
  • Air discharge up to 15 kV
  • All accessible surfaces and connectors
  • Functional verification during testing

Environmental testing

  • Temperature range: -40°C to +85°C
  • Humidity testing to 95% RH
  • Temperature cycling per standard profiles
  • Thermal shock testing
How it works

A clear path from test plan to certification

1

Requirements review

I identify the applicable standards for your product type and target markets (CE, FCC, UL, and others) and define a test plan that addresses the relevant requirements.

2

EMC pre-scan

I perform radiated and conducted emissions measurements, compare the results to the applicable limits, and identify any frequencies of concern.

3

ESD and immunity

I apply ESD to all accessible points and run basic immunity tests, documenting any failures or upsets with the specific conditions.

4

Environmental exposure

I subject the product to temperature extremes and humidity, verifying functional operation throughout exposure and after return to normal conditions.

5

Remediation support

If issues are found, I work on identifying root causes and implementing fixes, then re-test to verify effectiveness before formal certification.

Questions

Frequently asked

What does pre-compliance testing cover?

EMC emissions and immunity, ESD, and environmental checks done before you book a formal certification lab, so you find and fix problems early.

Why test before the formal lab?

A failed certification run is expensive and slow. Pre-compliance catches the issues at a fraction of the cost and time, so the formal test becomes a formality rather than a gamble.

Can you fix the problems you find, not just report them?

Yes. Because I design hardware as well, I can identify the root cause and revise the layout, filtering or shielding to solve it.

Do you guide the design toward CE and FCC?

Yes. Compliance is built in from the layout stage, and I support you through to the formal certification.

Can you do EMC and EMI pre-compliance before the formal test lab?

Yes. EMC and EMI pre-compliance testing is a core service: near-field probing, conducted and radiated emissions checks, and immunity screening on the bench so the design is fixed before the formal lab, where a failed booking is far more costly.

Ready when you are

Clear certification with confidence, not a gamble

Pre-compliance testing reduces certification risk and catches problems when they are cheapest to fix. Send the product and get back a documented picture of where it stands and what to change.
